Liège–Bastogne–Liège, victory for Darja

Tadej has a special relationship with the Liège–Bastogne–Liège race, one of the oldest classics in the world, to which he have happy and sad memories.

In this race in 2021, he celebrated his first victory in cycling monuments, and even a year later he was considered the first favorite, but he gave up defending the victory.
He stood by his fiancee Urška Žigart after her mother Darja lost her battle with cancer in April 2022. He would have dedicated the victory to her already last year, but he unfortunately crashed at a speed of 70km/h and broke his wrist.

"The last two years have been very difficult. This time I was driving for Urška's mother. I'm happy that I was able to win this beautiful race again. Thanks to everyone in the team, I couldn't have done it without them. I'm very emotional," said Tadej, after honoring the memory of Darja in this year's race by attacking climb to La Redoute, 35 kilometers before the finish line, in which he rode up with his gaze and fingers pointing to the sky.

We immortalized this scene on a commemorative t-shirt for his sixth monumental victory.
